Dear Sacred Heart Family,
Happy Halloween, everyone. While our students’ thoughts seem to move right to haunted houses, costumes, trick-or-treating and too much candy, let’s pause and remember Halloween (All Hallows–or All Saint’s–Eve) on October 31, All Saints Day on November 1, and All Souls Day on November 2, comprise a Catholic tradition of remembering, celebrating, and honoring our martyrs, saints, and the faithful departed, with each of those days having a unique focus.

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
As partners in education, I look forward to seeing you Thursday or Friday during conference time. If you are unable to make it, thanks for checking in with your child’s homeroom teacher. While we reserve these two days for formal and intentional (in many cases student-led) conferencing, we are always available by arrangement, as needed.

Dear Sacred Heart Family, This week, the recent tragedy in Roseburg weighs heavily on our hearts and minds, as we respond together in two important ways. Dear Sacred Heart Family,
With Pope Francis on U.S. soil as I write, I am thinking of the Jesuit motto, ad majorem Dei glori-am, which reminds us to humbly pursue excellence toward the greater glory of God. At Sacred Heart, we do that as a family, and as a team. Thus, our leadership responsibilities and privileges are shared.

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
What an amazing Mass we had on Monday, with our friends and partners at St. Mary’s, as Archbishop Sample helped us celebrate the beginning of our 150th year! Archbishop Sample was also able to visit a number of our classrooms; he had very positive things to say about our program, and it was very special for our students to have the privilege to get to know him a bit.

9.9.15 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
I hope you had a great first week of school, and a nice three-day Labor Day weekend. Welcome to our PS/PK students who join us this week. As you know, it was our school’s 150th first week, as we mark our sesquicentennial year along with our partners at St. Mary’s.

9.2.15 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
Welcome back! I guess I didn’t realize how much I missed our students, parents, and teachers, over the busy summer. What a joy it is as the building comes to life this week! I’m composing my letter today surrounded by happy children at play on our newly sealed asphalt and fresh bark chips–evidence of our summer playground/courtyard upgrade.

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
As most of you know, I spent many years as a middle and high school music teacher before becoming a principal. I fondly remember the joy of making music every day with talented young instrumentalists and vocalists, in rehearsal and performance. It was my job to teach and inform, to guide and inspire, and to prepare and polish the ensemble, to make music that allowed audiences to appreciate an excellent technical performance, but more importantly to be moved emotionally by the beauty of the music.
