12.10.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
I hope you are in the midst of an advent season filled with peace, hope, love, joy, and faith, as we prepare for a wonderful Christmas vacation and holiday. I enjoyed seeing and chatting with many of you at Providence Festival of Trees, where our middle school band and chorale performed last week.

12.3.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
I will be writing one article each month for our newsletter. One of my job responsibilities is to assist with curriculum and instruction I thought I would focus this first article in this area. As one of the trainers for the Archdiocese I attend meetings in Portland or via phone conference. I bring the infor-mation back to our staff here at Sacred Heart to teach, update, and assist our teachers. I also present curriculum updates and changes at our Archdiocese curriculum in-services in Eugene.

11.26.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
We have a short week this week, and I will treat you to a commensurately short column. It turns out to be a week of endings: We finish up the liturgical year, we are ending our first trimester (look for report cards towards the end of NEXT week), and we end our second round of STAR testing–and our very successful Scholastic book fair as well. (Thanks to our librarian Ms. Suzie Schweitzer and our many parent volunteers for their efforts towards that good end).

11.19.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
The miracle of tablets and school wide wi-fi access benefits not only our students, but the principal as well. One of the ways I try to maximize my effectiveness as a school leader is to be present in our classrooms–where the action is! I am composing this newsletter to you, for example, as I move from class to class in our middle school hallway.

11.12.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family, I hope your family enjoyed a day out of school on November 11, and perhaps also found an opportunity to in some special way honor those who have served and sacrificed for our country, as veterans of our armed forces. Click here to read the full version.

11.5.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
Thanks for your partnership and participation in our parent conferences this week. It was a pleasure to chat with the many of you who were able to stop by and see me personally, in addition to meeting with your children’s teachers. Conferences went very well, on the whole, but we are looking at making some changes next year, for example allowing for longer conferences and also ensuring more evening times for your convenience.

10.8.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Family,
If you are a detail-oriented observer, you will notice that my salutation this week has changed subtly. For the last five weeks, I greeted you as “Sacred Heart Families.” This week, “family” is singular. I had the pleasure of addressing our parish’s Catholic Daughters this week, to talk about our wonderful school.

10.1.14 Newsletter

Dear Sacred Heart Families,
We just had our first School Advisory Council meeting last night. I would like to thank our SAC members for their willingness to serve. The mix of members brings a broad range of skills, experience, and insights to guide our school to even higher levels of excellence, and the energy and spirit in the room was encouraging. Our SAC is:

9.24.14 Newsletter

As I connect with you this week, I have just re-turned from leaving my oldest son, Jeshua, at his college dorm as a beginning freshman. (OSU: Go Beavers.) It was a bittersweet moment for my wife and me as parents, and both of us felt conflicting emotions: pride, worry, excitement. loss, and a few others that I’m not sure have names.

As of today, our enrollment numbers for next year are at 239 which is 6 students behind last year at this time. Over the past several years we have typically seen 20-30 additional registrations between now and the start of the new school year. Please spread the good news about Sacred Heart Catholic School!
