I am Jill Eiler, one of the Reading Specialists/ Learning Support Coordinators in our school. I work with small groups of students and individual students to improve their reading skills. Our room includes Mrs. Anderson (Title I Reading Teacher), Mrs. Gregg (our Reading Room Aide), and myself. Our room is always bustling with activities designed to meet each child’s individualized needs around reading. Part of my job is also to work with our Learning Support Team to establish and manage Individualized Education Plans and services.
I was raised for the most part in Phoenix, Oregon and graduated from Western Oregon State College in 1991 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and obtained my M.S in Early Childhood Education in 1994. I taught in self-contained elementary classrooms for 16 years in various grades 1st-5th. My oldest son went to Sacred Heart from kindergarten-5th grade. He then went on to St. Mary’s where he is currently a sophomore. My twins are in fourth grade this year and have attended Sacred Heart since they were in Preschool. When my twin boys were born, I took time off of teaching to raise my family. I started working at SHCS when my twins were in Preschool. This started with volunteering with the Jog-a-Thon, in their classroom, and in the Reading Room. It then turned into a part-time Reading Room Aide job and eventually into the Reading Specialist/Learning Coordinator job that I have now. I also Co-Chair the Sacred Heart Jog-a-Thon. I have worked at SHCS for 7 years.
I loved having my own self-contained classroom, but it took a lot of time away from my family. This job allows me the time to still work with the students and also be fully available for my three boys and their activities. I enjoy working with all the students and staff at SHCS. The best days for me are when I see a concept we have been working on “click” for a student. It is so rewarding to see students setting goals, working hard, and enjoying what they are doing while they are learning! I am truly blessed to work in a school with children and adults who have a strong faith and value a great education!
