7th Grade Homeroom, Math | 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science.
My name is Mrs. Ann Fuller. I am a credentialed Math instructor as well as the Middle School Science instructor here at Sacred Heart.
I am the 7th grade homeroom teacher, and I love 7th grade. This is the first bend in the road from childhood to adulthood for our students. Middle school students will become young adults in just a few years, and I think it’s an exciting age to teach.
The 7th grade homeroom is a large classroom because it serves as the Science Classroom and Laboratory, as well as the 7th grade Math classroom.
Our Middle School Science curriculum is produced by the Smithsonian Science Education Center. This curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards that were released in 2017. This curriculum is very hands on. We do several labs a week in each of the Science classes. Students are able to explore, test, analyze, and understand the material in exciting new ways. It’s very satisfying to teach and to learn with this curriculum. Class times are 70 – 90 minutes long, which accommodates the lab-centric curriculum well.
The Science topics covered are:
Earth and Space Sciences (sixth grade)
Life Sciences (seventh grade)
Chemistry and Physics Sciences (eighth grade)
The 7th grade homeroom is also home to the 7th grade math curriculum. This class is made up of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students for whom this level of math is appropriate. We use the Envision Curriculum produced by Pearson Realize. It follows the Common Core Math Standards that are taught in schools all over the nation. Students have access to online math applications from Pearson, as well as others hand-picked by Sacred Heart instructors. Student work is accomplished in Envision workbooks and online assignments, as well as through teacher created materials. With 70 minute classes, both teachers and students have the time they need to practice their skills in the classroom. This helps make homework time less stressful and time consuming.
Sacred Heart is a family-oriented and community-based school, and I feel blessed to be able to practice my vocation as a Catholic School Teacher within its walls.
