6th Grade Homeroom, Math, Writing | 6th, 7th and 8th Grade ELA
My name is Carolyn Van Dyck, I have been at Sacred Heart Catholic School since 2005. I moved back to the Rogue Valley in June of 2005 after living in Reno, Nevada for 10 years. During my time in Reno I taught 3rd Grade at St. Albert’s Catholic School. My teaching time at Sacred Heart Catholic School has been mostly in 3rd Grade. I have also taught 2nd Grade and 5th Grade. This year began with me moving to the Middle School, It is such a challenging new and welcome change for me. I am teaching students who have previously been in my class, along with some new ones. I love being at Sacred Heart Catholic School, as a Catholic I am very fortunate to be able to practice my vocation daily as a Catholic School teacher. I have been teaching for the past twenty-one years and twenty of those years have been in a Catholic School setting.
At Sacred Heart Catholic School I am fortunate to be able to watch my two grandson grow academically and spiritually daily. Matthew and Scott Van Dyck are the 3rd generation of Van Dyck’s to attend Sacred Heart Catholic School.
In my classroom the 6th Grade students are rested, recharged and ready to move ahead into our 2nd Trimester following our Christmas Holiday. We are beginning our Literature Circle groups during ELA and continue to work on our Grammar & Writing skills and strategies. We are practicing our skills in Sentence Diagramming to help strengthen our skills in reading, writing and speaking. We will be composing “snow” poems this month. In Math we are learning more about Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple, we are writing and evaluating numerical expressions.
