Newsletter for 4/19/2010
Literacy: Our new WOW word for this week is “with”. We are also working on word families-words that have the same ending sounds. Our consonant of the week is the initial “h” sound. In our Handwriting Without Tears series we are learning the lower case letters “f”. Our little reader book is “Hop With a Hog” . Please practice these disposable books when they are sent home. Most of our reading this week is focused around our science projects and Earth day. Religion: The chapter in our Religion book is about caring for others and taking care of ourselves. We are connecting this into last weeks theme of taking care of the Earth. All of these themes have the same message-show our love for God by being responsible citizens/Christians. As one of our student learning expectations, we will be talking about this quite a bit for the remainder of the month. Math: We are done with our chapters on addition and subtraction and are moving into measurement. We will be comparing sizes, lengths, heights, circumference and weight. We will still be practicing our addition and subtraction with games and morning seat work. Our “Bridges Calendar” time is still practicing counting by 5’s, coin and value recognition and learning to tell time by the hour. Science: We have our eggs in the incubator and they should start hatching any day. I am a little bit nervous since I don’t know anything about chicks. Luckily Mrs. Byrd is an expert. We also have our pollywogs swimming about in there murky fish bowl. Our seeds are planted and a few have started sprouting. Our classroom is starting to look like an episode of “Nature Planet”. Social Studies: Earth day and our responsibility to our Earth. Conserving resources, reuse and recycle.
