Parent Night November 19th

Greetings Sacred Heart Families:

Join us in sharing the love of reading with our students at Sacred Heart Catholic School! The website for our book fair is http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/shcsmedford. The Scholastic Book Fair runs from Nov 18-Nov 25. It’s a great way to connect your kids with books they want to read!

All SHCS classes will visit the fair either Wednesday, Nov 18th or Thursday, Nov 19th.

We are asking families to:
• Spend some time with your child looking at the attached Book List.
• Visit our Fair to make your selections in person or complete the Book List order form and send back to our school.
• Participate in the events listed below as much as possible.

Klutz® Build-a-Book Student Event - Create Your Own Masterpiece
Drop your child at the cafeteria to create their own Klutz Build-a-Book on Thursday, Nov. 19th from 6 - 8 pm. Volunteers will be in the cafeteria to help children with their books. Surprise, Surprise…or choose to start the book with your child and then wander upstairs to the Parent Event described below.

Parent Night – Get to Know Other Sacred Heart Parents
We have planned a Parent only event in conjunction with the child event on Thursday, Nov. 19th from 6 – 8 pm that allows you to meet other parents, taste and purchase local Valley View wines, nibble on appetizers, and shop the Book Fair! We will have your child’s wish list for holiday shopping! Everyone’s invited! Take your kids to the Klutz Build-a-Book event (cafeteria) or the daycare.

Classroom Wish List - Build Better Classroom Libraries
Stop by the Classroom Wish List display while visiting our Book Fair. We are busy building up each classroom library and adding new titles. Help add books to our classroom shelves by purchasing books and donating them to your child’s class. Our school’s Classroom Wish List goal is to help teachers build their classroom libraries with new books to read.

One for Books - Put More Books in Students’ Hands
This year we have a new opportunity to bring more books to a local organization that is constantly opening new doors for Jackson County students. Kids Unlimited has accepted our donation for books bought through the One for Books program. This year we are hosting a competition between classes to see who can bring in the most loose change! Find the pennies, dimes, and nickels in the drawers, under the couch cushions, etc. to help buy books for this organization. You will be amazed at what you find. The other way to participate is to donate a $1 and sign a Book Slip with your name or your child’s name so we can display it at our Book Fair. All of the money collected goes directly to purchasing more books for Kids Unlimited.

Literacy - Get Involved and Read Together
Studies show that students who read excel in school as well as life. Reports also reveal that when parents are involved with their child’s education, students earn better grades and have a more positive attitude about school. What better way to connect with your child in these two areas than at a Scholastic Book Fair? Partner with us in encouraging the joy of reading while spending time at SHCS.
We appreciate your dedication to creating lifelong readers. See you at our Book Fair!
