Eighth Grade Saint Project

Eighth Grade Saint Interview by Shepherd of the Valley's R.C.I.A.
By Michelle, 8th Grade
Our eighth grade class recently did a presentation at the
Shepherd of the Valley Church. We all picked a
saint and pulled together all the information we
could about our chosen Saint. It was really fun
telling people about my saint and I’m sure my
classmates enjoyed it too. We got to dress up as
our saint and tell the story as if we were that saint.
We all learned a lot during this project; I wasn’t
asked very many questions about my saint that I couldn’t
answer. The people we talked to seemed to get a lot out of
it. They looked at us in awe when they heard the fascinating
stories of these great being’s lives. I think we really gave
them a good impression of what a great faith they are becoming
a part of. Going through this process, I think, has
really taught us that any of us could be saints.

Eighth Grade Stations of the Cross

The 8th grade class at Sacred Heart Catholic School is working hard on a project once again. During this season of Lent, they have become closer to Christ through his Death, Resurrection and Ascension. For the past few weeks, they have been studying and acting out the Stations of the Cross. The students have read and reread the Stations, they have read how as children they can relate to them and how as adults, they can relate. They really have become closer to Jesus through this.

What the students are doing is that they will be behind a white screen with a light shown on them to reflect their shadows onto the screen of what they are doing. They will use their shadows to represent Jesus’ Passion in front of the entire school. Some students will be acting while others will be reading about the Station they are showing and how to relate to them. Salvador will be representing Jesus throughout this presentation while other children will also be participating in the back ground.

The 8th grade class is hoping that the rest of the student body will really learn something from this presentation and will go throughout the rest of their day reflecting on what they learned. 8th grade has put a lot of time and effort into this project and want to make it amazing. The students know that what their doing is teaching and what they’re teaching will stick in the kid’s minds. Even though the 8th graders audience is young and restless, they know everyone will leave this presentation with new meaning to Jesus’ death.

Many of the 8th graders are really taking something from this experience. Some are really learning and getting into it. Michelle says,” This experience puts learning to a whole new level. I feel as if I am actually there.” Another student, Samantha says,” It’s a whole new feeling to what happened to Jesus. I know I have never experienced death but this has taught me how strong God really is.” The student representing Jesus, Salvador says,” I get a wonderful feeling, representing Jesus. It’s like in real life, really doing what Jesus suffered. That’s what I’m feeling, just like him.”

All of the 8th grade is taking part in this presentation and are really excited to share it with their school. They are really hoping that what they have practiced over and over, what they have done to become closer to Jesus, will truly sink into all the children’s minds and even the adult’s minds from this Presentation of the Stations of the Cross.
